Derry Soccer Ball Nets $10,000 for Travel Program

Marty and Lori Wood took home an autographed New England Revolution jersey after a winning bid in the evening's silent auction.

The first annual Derry Eagles Soccer Ball raised nearly $10,000 to help underwrite the Club's travel soccer program. About 80 people attended the March event that featured dinner, dancing, and a silent auction of nearly 30 items.

Thank you to our sponsors and donors. (See below.)

Club President Gary Burt said he hopes the event becomes an annual tradition and continues to grow. "The Soccer Ball was a tremendous success, both financially and socially." said Burt. "Everyone had a fantastic time. The dancing continued well into the night, and everyone who I spoke with really appreciated the opportunity to gather and socialize."

Burt noted that the night would not have been possible without the hard work of many volunteers. "The Club owes a debt of gratitude to Eric Brown—our DJ and enforcement officer; Lisa Forkey, who originated the idea; the event committe—Ellen Cohoon, Kathy Breslin, and Christine Haydon—who volunteered their time to turn the location into a wonderful place to eat, drink, and socialize; and Thom Goodwin and Dave Bulk, who worked tirelessly to get silent auction items and sponsors."

Thank You Sponsors and Donors

The Derry Soccer Club is a private organization, serving the needs of over 200 children registered for the Derry Eagles Travel Program, and over 400 children registered for the Derry Hawks In-town program. Through the tireless efforts of many, these athletes are able to compete both in town and in the travel division throughout New Hampshire, and often times in New England.

The Derry Eagles program has successfully implemented professional soccer training with the British Challenger Organization, and these efforts have not been without success. Teams from Derry have been champions at Fall and Spring Tournaments, Champions in the Granite State Youth Soccer League, and Finalists in the New Hampshire State Championship. The Club has also been actively involved in field acquisition and improvement, recently completing the construction of a game only class A field at Barka Elementary School.

None of the accomplishments of the Club could be achieved without your individual support, or the support of our sponsors. The cost of professional training, the cost to purchase quality equipment, and to maintain proper playing fields continues to mount, but can be successfully underwritten by fundraisers such as this.

The Club especially wants to thank our sponsors. Through their generous donations, the Club has not only been able to host this event, but raise money to continue to support the Derry Eagles program. Please keep our sponsors in mind when you are deciding where to spend your hard earned dollars. The sponsors have demonstrated once again that they are not only great places to bring your business, but civic-minded companies who truly care about Derry. The Club salutes them.
