Congratulations to the GU11 team who won their division championship game recently at the Amherst Memorial Day Tournament.

The girls opened up against tournament host Amherst on Saturday. Having won by a 3-2 score a few weeks earlier in a regular season match, the girls were ready for a tough game. They came out ready to play hard and raced to a 4-0 victory. Keara Doolan and Catherine Goodwin scored the goals while Hannah Lynch secured the shutout with excellent goalkeeper duty supported by a strong defense and midfield. The second game against the NH Cobras was more challenging for the girls against a stronger and faster team. However, the Eagles stepped up physically and played stronger than ever to a 2-1 victory. Molly Gringras stopped all but one shot that resulted from a surprise breakaway. The defense shut down just about every other offensive threat. Goals were scored by Catherine Goodwin and Keara Doolan. The third game against the Merrimack Dolphins resulted in a 6-0 win for the Eagles girls.

The Championship game pitted the Eagles against the NH Cobras. As expected, the rematch was filled with strong physical play from both teams. The Eagles girls were able to strike first with 2 goals in the first half from Keara Doolan. Excellent goalkeeping shared by Hannah Lynch and Molly Gringras kept the Cobras off the scoreboard. The defense played extremely well fighting off each advancement from Nashua. Great execution of ball control, passing and using the whole field kept the Derry girls in control at their end of the field. The match ended with the score 2-0, for the Eagles win.

In addition to the goal scorers, goalkeepers and defenders already mentioned, big contributions were made all weekend long from Sabrina Thomas, Gabby Guerard and Christina Ridenour at defense, as well as Kasey Russo, Jojo Morse, Alex and Jordan Dudley and Sydney Hill at midfield. It was great to watch the whole team step up their level of play and they can’t wait for the second half of the Spring season.
